The installation itself usually takes 2 to 3 working days, spread over about a week so the concrete around the posts can set. Before that comes the estimate, any zoning approval or permit, the PA 811 notice and our schedule.
What happens, in order
- Free site visit and measurements, followed by a written quote.
- Zoning approval or a fence permit where your municipality requires it.
- PA 811 notice, 3 to 10 business days before digging.
- Old fence removed, holes dug, posts set in concrete and left to cure.
- Rails and panels or mesh go on, then gates. We clean up and walk the fence with you.
What slows a fence job down in Pittsburgh?
- Hillside lots where everything is carried in by hand.
- Rock, shale or buried fill in the post holes.
- Municipalities that want a sealed survey with the application.
- Historic district review in the city.
- Frozen ground in midwinter and saturated clay in early spring.
- Special order gates, colors or panel styles.
We are getting a dog in three weeks and have no fence. What is fastest?
Call now, since approvals and the PA 811 notice use up part of that time. Stock materials such as chain link and standard wood panels can be installed soonest. If the full yard will not be ready, we can enclose a smaller run for the dog first and complete the fence afterward.
We are putting in a pool. Fence before or after?
Some of each. The pool contractor needs a way in for equipment, so that side stays open until excavation is finished. After that the whole barrier must be complete and inspected before the pool can be used. On a tight lot, agree with the pool builder which side stays open.
My association says fix the fallen panels by Monday and my contractor keeps delaying. Can a handyman patch it?
Yes. It is your fence, and a handyman patch will usually satisfy the deadline. Read your contract first, then let the contractor know in writing what was done and why, so the final repair and invoice are not confused.
The only real price is one based on your own yard. The estimate is free and done on site. Call (412) 851-6524 or text us a photo of the fence line.
