How Much Does a Fence Cost in Pittsburgh in 2026?

Fence cost in Pittsburgh for 2026: national price per foot by material, 6-foot privacy fence cost, gates, slopes, hand digging and what changes a quote.

How Much Does a Fence Cost in Pittsburgh in 2026?

Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026, which puts a 150-foot yard at $3,000 to $9,000. Those are national numbers. We do not post a Pittsburgh price list, because two yards of the same length can be very different jobs here. One is flat with alley access. The next drops fifteen feet and has to be dug by hand.

These price ranges are national figures that HomeGuide published for 2026. They are not our quotes. Labor rates, material prices and the conditions on your lot move the number up or down. Last checked October 2026.

How much does a fence cost per foot?

MaterialInstalled cost per foot
Chain link$9 to $30
Wood$20 to $50
Vinyl$30 to $60

How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?

The national range for a 6-foot privacy fence is $25 to $60 per foot installed. The table below shows totals by length for a typical fence at $20 to $60 per foot. Privacy fence takes more boards and stronger posts than a picket fence, so look toward the top of each row.

Fence lengthTypical installed cost
50 feet$1,000 to $3,000
100 feet$2,000 to $6,000
150 feet$3,000 to $9,000
200 feet$4,000 to $12,000

What is the cheapest fence to have installed?

Chain link is the cheapest, starting near $9 per foot in the national figures. For privacy at the lowest cost, pressure-treated pine with dog-ear boards is the usual answer. For keeping a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5-foot or 6-foot chain link does the job. One local catch: a few municipalities limit what you can build. Mt. Lebanon, for example, does not allow new solid privacy fences, so check before you settle on a style.

Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?

Aluminum is cheaper than wrought iron, at $25 to $75 per foot against $50 to $85. Vinyl runs $30 to $60, so the two overlap. Aluminum has one clear advantage on Pittsburgh lots: the panels rack to follow a slope, and they do not rust from road salt.

How much extra does a gate cost?

Every gate is priced on its own line. Width, material, hinges and latch set the number. A walk gate through a row house side passage is a small add. A double gate onto an alley, or a driveway gate on a hill, costs more because the posts are heavier and the footings larger. An automatic operator is a further cost.

How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?

We can only say after seeing it. Around Pittsburgh the extras that come up most are these: carrying posts and concrete by hand to a yard with no machine access, digging through shale or sandstone, building on a steep grade, clearing knotweed and vines off the old line, and hauling away an old fence with its concrete. Each is listed on the quote so you can see what it adds.

I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?

Look for the quote that spells the job out. Line the three up and check the footage, the height, the material grade, the post size, the hole depth, the number of gates, tear-out, haul-away and who gets the zoning approval. On a hillside lot, also check how each one handles the slope and the access. A low quote that assumes machine digging in a yard only reachable by steps will not hold.

Does a fence add value to my home?

It can add value for the right buyer, mainly people with dogs or young children, and it makes a small city yard more usable. It seldom pays back its full cost at sale. Whether it changes your assessment is up to the Allegheny County Office of Property Assessments.

The only real price is one based on your own yard. The estimate is free and done on site. Call (412) 851-6524 or text us a photo of the fence line.

Five-stars across the board. 24' fence installed next day after estimate. Came in under-budget. How often does that happen? I'm having them come back for a 30' section next month. Thank you Z!
